Choosing the right size wedding cake
Wedding cake sizes can vary depending on several factors, including the number of guests, the style of the cake, and the preferences of the couple. However, there are some standard guidelines that couples often follow when choosing the size of their wedding cake tiers:
Number of Wedding Guests
The number of wedding guests attending the wedding breakfast or the evening reception is a primary consideration when determining the size of the wedding cake.
Cake Servings
A standard serving size for a wedding cake is typically 1 inch wide by 2 inches long and about 5 inches high. This size ensures that each guest receives a satisfying portion of cake. If you have lots of guests you can opt for a finger slice serving (1”by 1”) or if you want to serve the cake as a dessert to your wedding breakfast, the recommended size is 2” by 2”. This will determine the size of the cake tiers and how many tiers do you need to cover the servings.
1"x1" servings
6" cake serves 28
8" cake serves 48
10" cake serves 76
1"x2" servings
6" cake serves 14
8" cake serves 24
10" cake serves 38
Wedding Cake Design
The design of the wedding cake can also influence the size of each tier. Intricate designs or elaborate decorations may require larger tiers to accommodate the additional weight and space needed.
Non-edible Tiers
If you want to incorporate dummy tiers (foam and acrylic) this means you might need bigger size of edible tiers or additional servings as a separate sheet cake to supplement the main wedding cake if needed.
Allergies and Dietary Requirements
Depending on the number of guests with dietary restrictions on your wedding, you might consider additional cupcakes to cover these requirements which means the size of the cake might get smaller.
Ultimately, the size of the wedding cake should be chosen based on the number of guests, the desired serving size, and the overall aesthetic preferences of the couple.
